Another Casper native, veteran joins the crowded race for U.S. House
CASPER (WNE) — Casper native and U.S. Army veteran Kevin Christensen recently announced his campaign for Wyoming’s sole seat in the U.S. House of Representatives.
Six Republicans, including Christensen, will face off for the seat vacated by Rep. Harriet Hage- man. The August primary will include former superintendent of public instruction Jillian Balow, Wyoming Senate President Bo Biteman, fellow Casper native and veteran David Giralt, Wyoming Secretary of State Chuck Gray, and businessman Reid Rasner.
“Wyoming deserves strong, steady leadership that champions our values and way of life,” Chris- tensen said in a statement.
Christensen’s priorities include fiscal responsibility, individual liberty and fighting federal
overreach, according to a news release.
“The current federal debt is our largest national security threat and cannot continue to be deferred,” Christensen said on his campaign website.
Christensen began his 27-year career in the U.S. Army in 1989, rising to the rank of colonel and later serving on the Joint Staff at the Pentagon and advising senior military leaders on national defense matters.
He went on to work on Army Aviation and tactile missile systems for Lockheed Martin while providing testimony to congressional staff on key defense programs, according to the news release.
“Combat and command teach calm decisions, accountability, and loyalty to the mission and the people,” Christensen said.
He also pointed to responsible energy development, grazing, recreation and tourism on Wyoming lands as a focus of his campaign.
“Our land is our legacy and our home,” Christensen said.
A graduate of Kelly Walsh High School, he earned an electrical engineering degree from the University of Wyoming and later completed advanced degrees from the Florida Institute of Technology and the National Defense University in Washington, D.C.
He has two adult children with his wife, Amber Christensen, the chairwoman of the Casper Celtic Irish Festival.
