Agencies douse North Fork fire

CODY (WNE) — Nearly 200 acres burned last Saturday during the Logan Mountain Fire on the North Fork after a controlled burn got out of control.
Park County Fire District 2 fire warden Jerry Parker said the incident was reported at 3:15 p.m. and that a total of nine units from Cody along with federal agencies responded to the blaze, which torched a mix of private and federal lands west of Cody.
Both the U.S. Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management assisted Cody Fire in responding to the call, with the former dispatching two units while the latter sending one type-6 engine and conducting an aerial attack that included two single-engine tankers and one type-2 helicopter.
In addition, BLM assisted with command and had one team member take an overhead position on the fire to manage its containment.
As of Monday, Parker said that the fire, which burned 194 acres, had been contained.
“We had it out pretty quick on Saturday and finished mopping it up (on Sunday),” he said.
Joel Peters, assistant fire management officer at the BLM’s Worland office, praised the interagency response to the fire.
“We had phenomenal cooperation from Park County,” he said. “There could have been no better interagency response than what we received from those agencies in the fire zone.”
Peters said that a formal fire investigation into the cause of the blaze has been ordered.
