2 pedestrians killed in 2 crashes
LANDER (WNE) — Fremont County has recorded two fatalities on roadways in recent days. The Wyoming Highway Patrol reported a fatal crash on Jan. 16 on the Wind River Reservation, and another man was killed on the reservation on Feb. 4.
The first crash on Jan. 16 happened on Rendezvous Road at around 8:10 p.m.
According to the WHP, Zachary Bowman, 35, was killed after being struck by a Nissan.
"The Nissan was eastbound on Rendezvous Road when a pedestrian ran into the eastbound lane of travel from the south side of the roadway," the WHP wrote in its report. "The Nissan swerved left to avoid the pedestrian. The Nissan struck the pedestrian on the front passenger side."
Road conditions were listed as dry and the weather was clear, the WHP wrote.
The second crash happened on Feb. 4 outside Ethete on Wyoming Highway 132 at around 6:10 p.m. Aloysius Piper, 58, was reportedly lying in the roadway before he was struck.
"The Peterbilt combination unit was northbound on Wyoming Highway 132 outside of Ethete when it came upon a male lying in the northbound lane of travel," the WHP wrote in its report. "Due to the unlit roadway, the driver was unable to see the male until he was almost upon him. The driver of the Peterbilt slammed on the brakes but was unable to avoid the male, striking him."
The WHP listed the road conditions as dry and weather as clear at the time of the crash.
