Incumbents ruled the 2022 Primary Election in Weston County’s contested races with 2,757 total ballots being cast across the county. While these candidates will appear on the general election ballot in November, the local Republican candidates will run unopposed as no Democrats filed for any local races.
Weston County Sheriff Bryan Colvard was able to hold onto his seat for another four years with 1,517 votes. Upton Police Chief Susan Bridge followed behind Colvard with 913 votes, while former Newcastle Police Detective Richard Hillhouse snagged 194 votes.
Weston County Clerk Becky Hadlock will continue to run the Weston County Clerk’s office after she edged out opponent Tricia Baumann with 1,483 votes to Baumann’s 1,049.
The remaining incumbents, Clerk of District Court Tina Cote (2,292 votes), Weston County Assessor Kara Lenardson (2,352 votes), Weston County Attorney Michael Stulken (2,035 votes) and Weston County Treasurer Susan Overman (2,317 votes) will all remain in office after running in unchallenged races.
The only Weston County office that will see a change is the position of Weston County Coroner with Scott Beachler receiving 2,323 votes in his unchallenged race.
Newcastle City Council Incumbents Ann McColley and Don Steveson will both remain on the board with 758 and 633 votes, respectively. With two remaining seats on the council, write-in candidates will likely appear on the general election ballot with 220 total write-in vote cast.
Upton Town Council candidates will both continue on to the general election with Joe Watt receiving 271 and Delane Haynes bringing in 208 votes.
As far as state races go, incumbent for House District 1, Chip Neiman, will once again serve Weston County in Cheyenne with 963 total votes. He ran unopposed.
For House District 2, Allen Slagle was able to pull away from incumbent JD Williams with 911 votes to William’s 565 votes. The results of the election in both Goshen and Niobrara counties will determine who appears on the general election ballot for the house district.
Newcastle’s Marty Ertman (741) was able to edge out incumbent for Senate District 3 Cheri Steinmetz (734) for Weston County. Votes cast in Goshen and Niobrara counties will help determine which candidate will continue on to the general election.
Senate District 1 saw a close race, although incumbent Ogden Driskill was able to secure the Weston County vote with 455 votes to Roger Connett’s 401 and Bill Fortner’s 227. Voters in Crook and Campbell counties will help determine which of these men appear on the upcoming general election ballot.
Weston County voters also made their voices heard in several state races, although vote totals from across the state will be totaled to determine who will appear on the general election ballot. Governor Mark Gordon was able to retain the Weston County vote with 1,171 votes. Brent Bien followed Gordon with 1,124 votes, Rex Rammell received 199 and James Quick got 91.
Weston County’s Democratic voters gave Theresa Livingston 29 votes to edge out Rex Wilde, who received 7.

Sergio Maldonado Sr. was running unopposed as a Democrat for the Superintendent of Public Instruction and received 29 votes.
Kristi Racines ran unopposed for the state auditor seat and will appear on the general election ballot. Weston County offered up 2,194 votes in support of her.
And for the race for Wyoming’s lone United States Representative seat, Weston County voted in line with the rest of the state taking out incumbent Liz Cheney who conceded to Harriet Hageman early Tuesday evening. Cheney received 332 votes in the county compared to Hageman’s 2,142. Other Republican candidates included Robyn Belinskey (33), Anthony Bouchard (117), and Denton Knapp (36).
