A newcomer to Weston County has been chosen to join the Weston County Health Services board of trustees. Dorothy Briggs was appointed after trustees met in a July 21 executive session to select a new member from among six interested candidates. Briggs will fill the seat left vacant by the resignation of Lisa Foster, whose term was to end in 2024.
As previously reported, Briggs moved to Newcastle from Pennsylvania a year ago. A retiree, she had worked in health care since 1971. She served as a nurse before working for an insurance company.
“The reason I am interested (in serving on the board) is, I may have some valuable experiences to share with you guys,” Briggs said during a discussion with the hospital board on June 16. “To learn more about the community but really to be a positive influence in the community. So far, in a year, it is endearing for me to be here. It is a beautiful, wonderful place.”
The other candidates were Esther Murray, Bob Hartley, Loa Dickinson, Brandon Sams and Ian Thurgood.
