Another look at “spirits”
To the editor:
When I read this to my husband, he said something like, “It’s about time.” What he meant was, it’s about time this issue (“Bump in the night,” Oct. 23, 2025 News Letter Journal) was addressed from a Biblical viewpoint. It’s not a source of pride to think that Wyoming, and Weston County in particular, ranks second in the nation in so-called paranormal activity. Those who read and study the Bible know that such phenomena comes from dark forces, “principalities and powers” and “the spirits of wickedness in high places.”
No, the “ghosts” many of you have seen and otherwise experienced are not the disembodied spirits of dead people, including your own departed loved ones. They are very real, but they are the spirits of devils.
The Bible is very clear that the “spirits” of dead people do not appear to living humans, ever. You may say, but what about the spirit of Samuel that appeared to King Saul at Endor when Saul consulted with the witch? (I Samuel 28:3-20) That may have looked, sounded, and acted like Samuel, but it was a demon. God explicitly told the Israelites not to consult mediums or witches, on pain of death.
Satan’s purpose is to deceive and destroy us, and he stops at nothing to accomplish his goal. Spiritualism is one of his most effective methods.
We urge everyone to search the Bible for the truth about what happens to us at death and how to protect ourselves from deception on this point.
